"Well, this turned into three times as much work as I had planned, but I like your ideas."
"Chris, I'm going home this weekend. Would it be better if I didn't come in on Friday or Monday?"
"Well. Look at you. What a way to ask for time off."
"I'm going home and you can't stop me, and I just thought I'd let you know."
I took Friday off and went home for a quick weekend trip, and while I'm sure I missed an exciting day at the office, I really enjoyed seeing my family.
When I came into the office this morning, we revisited our BW client one last time and I made some last minute adjustments. I then showed Chris what I had been working on.
Chris had assigned me to finish his airshowposters.us website, complete with optimization. It was a small undertaking, considering I could have been given a much larger project, but I was nonetheless nervous to be given so much responsibility. I might seem confident, but usually I'm afraid of making mistakes, but this internship is teaching me that mistakes are the ONLY way to learn and grow.
Chris reviewed the work I had done so far, and all of a sudden, my workload seemed to triple when I made an optimization suggestion. I don't mind the extra work, I was just pleased that Chris liked my idea, and I felt accomplished, at least for today.
I realized today at work that I yawn a lot. And it's usually not because I'm sleepy. So I found some really interesting research stating that yawning may be a way for the brain to "cool down." I like to think that means I am really exercising my brain at work and yawning gives my brain the break it needs, and that I really am learning a lot. At least, that's what I'm going to start telling people!
