"Hi, you must be Charly! Come look at this..."
My professor said that I really needed to find an internship if I expected to get any hands-on experience in the world of marketing and advertising, so he gave me the name of a local small company that he had sent interns to in the past.
"Hi, my name is Charly and I'm calling to ask if you would like to take any interns for the summer." I called Chris Damon at GX Creative and with a little less confidence than I anticipated asked if he had any space for an intern.
"Why don't you come in this afternoon and we can sit down and talk about it?"
I arrived at the small office ten minutes early and sat anxiously waiting for Chris. "Hi, you must be Charly! Come look at this."
I hesitantly walked over and edged myself behind a desk in the corner as Chris pointed to a white machine. I don't know what I was expecting to be shown, but this certainly wasn't it. "...what is it?" Chris proceeded to tell me about a company in Austin that is working with infrared light technology and how it affects the human body. This particular machine uses pulsating infrared lights to stimulate hair follicle growth. I was really confused for most of the conversation until Chris wrapped up his story.
"Basically I'm telling you all this because this company applied for a grant. When they receive this grant money, they are going to give it to us to do market research on how to sell this product."
LIGHTBULB!
"When this money comes in, it will be mass chaos around here, and I'm going to need all the help I can get. So I would love to have an intern around."
Praise Jesus!
Chris continued to explain what they do on any given day in the world of creative marketing and advertising and how I could be useful around the office. He said to think about everything over Spring Break and to call him when I got back to school...
...but I already knew this was exactly what I wanted to do.
